These days, networking is synonymous with a successful business. Networking is also the key to a good social life. It doesn't matter how big your office is, how colourful your flyers are or how many degrees we have, it is the quality of relationships we establish with oursleves, our families, our customers, our suppliers and more than anything else, with the people we don't know, that will determine our success in our personal life or in business.
Sites such as Myspace and Facebook have evolutionized the social networking model.
Another source to these findings was also embraced by Loutsenko Konstantin on his blog post - see student links.
Social Networking is more than just a simple fad. Checking out blog feeds, scraps, online communities etc. have become as common as checking your email.

More and more businesses are channelling into social networking and into a multifaceted realm of new opportunities.
In business, networking is the vehicle to spread "word of mouth" and the primary source of referals.
This platform has opened up a door for small, medium and large sized businesses to broaden their scope, increase their brand image and welcome new relationships.
I was fortunate to find a fellow students blog who sees the pith to Social Networking. According to his views, these platforms have adapted to the trends and have become a popular choice for advertising. http://speedgeneration.blogspot.com/
The fact remains, socialization, business models and technology all stem from a metphorical and relational form of networking.

It is interesting to see how these social network website change their popularity from one country to another. Orkut, for exemplo is the most popular website in Brazil. It is even more accessed than Google just like Facebook in Canada. At the begining it didnt have many features and right now is it starting to get better. I wonder if these social networking website are going to start to share their database between each other in order to create more opportunities and features for their businesses and users.
Social Networking sites have definitley evolved tremendously from the original launch. Moving forward I see a much greater resource embedded in such sites. I believe that in a short time we will see businesses really enter the realm of social networking on a much larger scale.
Very valid point Oliveira! And thanks for the info.
I actually looked into that and found this interesting article from TechCrunch " Google To Out Open Facebook On November 5 ... see link - http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/09/21/google-to-out-open-facebook-on-november-5/
It basically, confirms your notion and announces that we'll likely see third party iGoogle gadgets that leverage Orkut's social graph information. By doing so, it will integrate and allow third parties to both push and pull data, into and out of Google + non-Google applications.
Interesting article from TechCrunch Julia! I have excerpts from an article on my blog http://socialmarketing-itm350.blogspot.com/ titled "About-face on insidious marketing" that speaks about the recent consumer protest against some FB partnership programs.
You can find the full article at http://www.theage.com.au/news/technology/bonlineb-facebook-users-take-a-stand-against-marketing/2007/12/01/1196394683305.html
Would love to hear what you think or predict might happen. I know for me -anything to do with advertising on FB turns me away (lol- even though I am a marketer) - especially if it exposes my confidential information or puts my information security at risk.
One of the listed sites that I did not recognize was Orkut…finally when I searched for it, I found out that it is a social network service that is run by Google. Furthermore, it had unique features compared to the other social networking sites like Facebook. It included scarp booking where you can share photos, and videos and it was available to anyone with Orkut account. When Orkut started out, the intial target was the U.S., its funny how the majority of the users are from Brazil, second followed by India. I think social networking sites tended to be targeted demographically, but somehow ends up being used world wide. Xing is another social networking site. ZoomInfo, the search engines serves the net to collect details on professionals like 36 million business people and 3.8 million companies worldwide without their knowledge. Xing will be able to tap into ZoomInfo and allow its users to apply for jobs. Its members are from Spain and Latin America.
